Malaysia and Indonesia inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the employment and protection of Indonesian domestic workers on April 1, 2022.
“The starting monthly salary under this MoU cannot be less than the minimum wage currently in force in this country, which is RM1,500,” the ministry said in a parliamentary reply to a question from Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh).
The DAP MP wanted to know the number of Indonesian domestic workers who have come to Malaysia through the OCS.
It said the MoU also provided for the protection and welfare of the workers, including the right to notice of termination of employment contracts, paid annual leave, weekly rest days, rest time, and social protection with insurance.
The ministry said a joint working group from the two countries was monitoring the implementation of the MoU, including placement costs and tariff fees for private employment agencies in Malaysia and Indonesia.
