Law and institutional reforms minister Azalina Othman Said said the investigation paper had yet to be handed over to the attorney-general (AG) for review.

“A complaint was lodged with the MACC and the probe is ongoing,” she said in a written reply.

Azalina was responding to Che Mohamad Zulkifly (PN-Besut) who wanted to know what action had been taken by the government about the allegations of “judicial interference”.

Thomas, in his 2021 memoir, revealed that he held discussions with then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the appointments of the Chief Justice, the president of the Court of Appeal and the chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

Thomas, who served as AG between 2018 and 2020, is also under investigation for alleged sedition and other suspected offences related to statements in his memoir.

In January, the Cabinet agreed to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to look into Thomas’ revelations and statements.

Azalina had then said the RCI was aimed at finding out the truth and submitting recommendations to the government to reform the country’s legal institutions.
