No interference in MACC probe on home ministry official

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says it is the anti-graft agency's responsibility to investigate the case linked to RM596 million sukuk funds.

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said MACC should be given space to carry out its duties in accordance with the law.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The home ministry will not interfere with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into one of its officers linked to the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds worth RM596 million.

“MACC is free to probe, it’s their responsibility,” said minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“MACC should be given space to fulfil its responsibilities in accordance with the law,” he told reporters at the police training centre here today.

Saifuddin was asked to comment on a report that a ministry official will be summoned by MACC to facilitate its investigation into the sukuk deal, related to a project for the registration, recruitment and recording of biometric data of foreign workers.

A company director and a chief financial officer were among four men arrested by MACC last Tuesday to assist in the investigation.

Three of them were remanded for three days while the other was released on MACC bail.
