‘Datuk Roy’ released on MACC bail

Hussein Nasir is suspected to be the mastermind behind a case linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

Hussein Nasir, commonly referred to as ‘Datuk Roy’, was arrested twice by MACC last week and remanded for a total of seven days.
PETALING JAYA:
A 54-year-old man suspected of being the mastermind in a corruption case linked to the Jana Wibawa programme was released on bail by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today.

Berita Harian reported that Hussein Nasir, also known as “Datuk Roy”, was released on MACC bail by magistrate Irma Zulaikha Rohanuddin. He was instructed to report himself to the MACC headquarters monthly.

Hussein surrendered to MACC on March 13 and had been remanded for three days.

He was subsequently rearrested in connection with another MACC investigation under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009 and remanded for four days.

He is among five people, including an MACC officer, arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM400,000 to prevent investigations into the controversial programme.

In 2021, Hussein was sentenced to seven days’ jail and fined RM50,000 after impersonating an MACC officer and soliciting money to help some people from being investigated by the anti-graft agency.
