Wan Rosdy, Khaled, Johari take early lead in Umno veep contest

In the contest for Supreme Council seats, two ministers and three deputy ministers are among the 25 front-runners.

Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Khaled Nordin and Johari Ghani are the current front-runners in the contest for the three posts of Umno vice-president.

Pahang Umno chief Wan Rosdy is ahead with 28 votes as of 8pm, followed by Khaled at 23, and Johari at 17.

Khaled is one of the two vice-presidents who seeks re-election. The other, Mahdzir Khalid, currently has three votes.

Other candidates vying for the vice-presidency are Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said (11 votes), former Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican (9), Pontian Umno division chief and Simpang Renggam MP Hasni Mohammad (6) and Iskandar Puteri division member Yusof Musa (0).

In the contest for the 25 seats on the Supreme Council, two ministers and three deputy ministers are among the front-runners.

They are international trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, foreign minister Zambry Abd Kadir, deputy home minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, deputy finance minister Ahmad Maslan, and deputy works minister Abdul Rahman Mohamad.

Also in the top 25 are Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin, Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi, former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said, former Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, former Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, former Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Lokman Noor Adam.

A total of 189 divisions will cast their ballots during today’s party elections.
