FAM president Hamidin Amin brought up the matter with Collina, who is chairman of the Fifa referees committee, at the annual congress of the international football federation in Rwanda yesterday, Bernama reported.

Collina said FAM had a choice of either the full VAR system, with a minimum of eight cameras, or VAR Light, with less than eight cameras, which is half the price.

Hamidin, who attended the congress as a member of the Fifa council, said FAM will hold further discussions with the Malaysian Football League and the Fifa referees unit.

Hamidin said he had also met several international football leaders to discuss a plan to send national footballers to foreign clubs and Tier 1 Fifa international matches.

He had discussed holding friendly matches with Fiji, Montenegro, Cyprus, Sierra Leone and Rwanda, and “discussing in detail with United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Japan and South Korea about sending quality players to play in the leagues of these countries”.
