More porn websites need to be blocked, says deputy minister

Deputy women, family and community development minister says this is crucial in combatting sexual crimes against children.

Sexual crimes against children and women nationwide rose from 11,092 cases in 2020 to 12,890 cases last year.
KOTA BHARU:
Women, family and community development deputy minister Aiman Athirah Sabu says the ministry is pushing for more porn websites to be blocked in an effort to combat sexual crimes against children.

According to Bernama, Aiman Athirah said consumption of pornographic materials through social media and the internet was a contributing factor to sexual crimes.

“Action must be taken to block pornography websites,” she said after officiating the Kelantan International Women’s Day 2023 Carnival here.

She was commenting on the increase in sexual crimes against children and women in the country from 11,092 cases in 2020 to 12,890 cases last year.

Aiman Athirah said the ministry is working with the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to block access to porn websites.

It was previously reported that the MCMC had blocked access to some 3,000 porn websites.
