‘Datuk Roy’ remanded again for 4 days

Hussein Nasir is suspected to be the mastermind of a corruption case linked to the MACC's probe into Jana Wibawa.

Hussein Nasir, commonly referred to as ‘Datuk Roy’, was rearrested by MACC yesterday when his initial remand order expired.
PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a four-day remand order against a 54-year-old man suspected to be the mastermind of a corruption case linked to the agency’s investigation into the Jana Wibawa programme.

Lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin said magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued the remand order against Hussein Nasir, commonly referred to as “Datuk Roy”, today.

Fahmi said MACC had asked the court for a seven-day remand order initially, but Hussein’s legal team objected.

Earlier this week, MACC obtained a three-day remand against Hussein. He was released on bail yesterday before he was rearrested for another MACC probe.

Hussein is among five people, including an MACC officer, who were arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM400,000 to prevent investigations into the Jana Wibawa programme.

The programme was introduced in November 2020 by the Muhyiddin Yassin-led government as a Covid-19 stimulus initiative to help Bumiputera contractors.

Investigations into Jana Wibawa have led to corruption charges against Muhyiddin and other Bersatu leaders, including Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.
