Bukit Aman has given the green light for the FRU to acquire the 10 “riot dogs” for maintaining order in emergency situations, said the director of internal security and public order, Hazani Ghazal.
He said discussions have been held with FRU commander Said Ibrahim to coordinate procedures and to determine the scope of tasks involving riot dogs.
“We need dogs in riot assignments and to maintain the peace because it is human nature to feel fear when faced with fierce dogs. People will think twice if they intend to do something bad,” he said after closing a basic FRU training course in Wakaf Tapai, Marang, today.
Hazani said the FRU remained relevant. Besides controlling and dispersing riots, the role of the FRU had been extended to assisting flood victims and border control with the use of horses.
“In fact, we have already deployed our horse unit to the north and Kelantan to carry out safety patrols and gather intelligence related to smuggling,” he added.
