Sultan Ibrahim asks federal government to channel special flood allocation

The ruler says the allocation will be used to repair infrastructure and properties damaged by the floods.

The number of flood victims in Johor dropped from 33,254 at 8pm yesterday to 31,680 at 8am today.
PETALING JAYA:
Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has called on the federal government to provide a special allocation to the state to repair infrastructure and properties damaged by the floods.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Sultan Ibrahim also expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the federal government for the financial allocation that was approved earlier for flood victims.

“Two weeks ago, Johor was hit by a major flood, and until today, many areas have not fully recovered, especially in Batu Pahat. I would like to express my sadness and sympathy to the people who have to face this disaster,” he said.

“Overall, this disaster recorded as many as 74,453 victims from 26,376 families involving 379 temporary relocation centres.

“After this disaster ends, I hope the federal government will provide a special allocation for the purpose of restoring damaged public infrastructure and properties in this disaster.”

Earlier this month, Anwar said the federal government would channel RM50 million in flood assistance to Johor for river management, assist flood victims and other urgent requirements.

Johor’s state disaster management committee (JPBN) today said the number of flood victims in the state dropped from 33,254 at 8pm yesterday to 31,680 at 8am.
