The MCA president said he is ready to cooperate with the police, the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the telecommunications provider in any investigation into the matter.
“If Deepak Jaikishan feels that someone impersonated him to call me, he should make a police report,” Wee said.
The MCA president told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that he received a telephone call from an individual named “Deepak” demanding that he clarify an earlier statement he had made regarding the importation of eggs from India.
Wee claimed the clarification was required to avert a pending lawsuit against him.
At a media conference this morning, Wee disclosed that the phone call was received from the mobile number 019-99****9.
“When I checked with the Truecaller application, it shows that the number belongs to one Deepak J Tekwani,” he added.
Wee added that he had spoken with the caller twice, with the first call lasting 33 seconds and the second call seven minutes.
Wee, who has repeatedly highlighted issues related to eggs imported from India, also told Parliament yesterday that the caller claimed to be a representative of J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd, the sole importer of eggs from India.
Meanwhile, businessman Deepak, who was previously linked to the company by Perikatan Nasional information chief Azmin Ali, yesterday denied calling the MCA president.
The company subsequently denied the link and has threatened to sue the former international trade and industry minister.
