PETALING JAYA:
Nazifuddin Najib, son of former prime minister Najib Razak, has failed to win election as Umno deputy youth chief, but his sister succeeded in getting a spot in Puteri Umno’s top council.

In a Facebook post, Nazifuddin said he was disappointed by his loss but will remain with the party and called on all members to support the new leadership.

While no one has won the post yet, unofficial results as of 1pm show Hairi Mad Shah leading with 74 votes while Ikmal Hazlan Ikmal Hisham had 69 votes.

Nazifuddin had only managed to garner 11 votes, ruling him out of the race since Umno has a total of 191 divisions.

Berita Harian reported that Nazifuddin’s sister, Nooryana Najwa, managed to get 149 votes in the race for a spot in Puteri Umno’s executive council.

The daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Nurul Hidayah, was also elected into Wanita Umno’s executive council after obtaining 132 votes, according to unofficial results as of 5pm.

Contestants need 96 votes to get elected.

Earlier, it was reported that Nurul Hidayah failed to be elected the head of Bagan Datuk Wanita Umno after losing to the incumbent, Zarozatin Isa.
