MP apologises for using pop song in video for Muhyiddin

Mas Ermieyati Samsudin says she will now only use nasyid songs or songs by Siti Nurhaliza.

Mas Ermieyati Samsudin of Bersatu speculated that singer Amir Jahari might have asked her to remove the video as she was part of the opposition.
PETALING JAYA:
A Bersatu MP has apologised for featuring Amir Jahari’s song in a video to show solidarity with Muhyiddin Yassin after the former prime minister was charged in court today.

Mas Ermieyati Samsudin issued the apology after the singer’s former manager, Joe Lee, asked her on Twitter to remove the video which had featured the song “Hasrat” without his permission.

Lee said Amir was not keen on his works being used for political content, Astro Awani reported.

Mas Ermieyati urged Amir to issue a reminder forbidding any political party from using his songs after he had told her earlier that he did not want his songs to be used for political purposes.

Mas Ermieyati, a former deputy law minister, said she would probably use tracks by popular songstress Siti Nurhaliza from now on as Siti apparently “did not care whether her songs are used for social, welfare or political reasons”.

She also said she would use nasyid songs.

Mas Ermieyati went on to speculate that Amir had asked her to remove the video as she was part of the opposition. “Could it be that he is afraid? I don’t know. Maybe because I am an opposition MP, therefore people are embarrassed,” she was quoted as saying.

She also said that she did not upload the video. Instead, it was done by a 19-year-old who loved the song.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin was charged with four counts of abuse of power in relation to the Jana Wibawa economic stimulus programme for Bumiputera businesses. Muhyiddin, who is Bersatu president, also claimed trial to two counts of money laundering amounting to RM195 million.
