The project entails the widening and deepening of the Klang River, from the giant Mid Valley City mall in Kuala Lumpur to Port Klang.

Green Party Malaysia secretary-general Abdul Razak Ismail said he had filed a request for information on Thursday under Selangor’s state freedom of information law.

He said the state government must reveal whether the project was awarded through an open tender, and make public the project’s terms of reference.

He also wanted to know what allowances or benefits were received by menteri besar Amirudin Shari and state executive councillor Izham Hashim as board members of Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd, the state government company awarded the contract for the project.

“Let’s see if they (the state government) reply or if they say that (the information sought after) comes under the Official Secrets Act,” Razak said in a Facebook post.

Earlier this month, a state Perikatan Nasional (PN) leader had lodged a police report against Amirudin and Izham for alleged abuse of power over the project.

Selangor PN information chief Shukor Mustaffa claimed that the project had been awarded through direct negotiation, though this was denied by an aide to Amirudin.

Landasan Lumayan also said Amirudin and Izham were on the company’s board to represent the state government’s interests.

Izham is the state councillor in charge of infrastructure and public amenities, agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry.
