PETALING JAYA:
An environmental sustainability company has defended Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari and a state executive councillor against allegations that the duo had abused their power after the firm was awarded a river-widening project.

Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), a subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI), said Amiruddin and Izham Hashim sat on the LLSB board to represent the interest of the state government.

Izham is the state councillor in charge of infrastructure and public amenities, agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry.

Amirudin is also an MBI board member.

“Amirudin and Izham represent the state government’s interest to ensure the project can be executed in a transparent and orderly manner, in line with the state government’s objective,” LLSB managing director Syaiful Azmen Nordin said in a statement.

Earlier today, Selangor Perikatan Nasional information chief Shukor Mustaffa lodged a police report against Amirudin and Izham over an alleged abuse of power in relation to the RM700 million project.

Shukor claimed that the project, known as the Selangor Maritime Gateway, had been awarded through direct negotiation.

Serdang district police chief AA Anbalagan confirmed receiving the report.

Meanwhile, Amirudin’s press secretary Jay Jay Denis denied that the project was awarded through direct negotiation.

“LLSB is raising funds through a private finance initiative.

“Amirudin is a director of the company by virtue of the project being under MBI,” he said when contacted.

The Selangor Maritime Gateway will see the widening and deepening of the Klang river from the Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur to Port Klang.
