Calling it defamatory, Fahmi Fadzil said he would seek clarification from the news outlets on the 100-day survey of the government.
“It’s (a) dishonest (survey) by the mainstream newspapers.
“Was there an attempt to promote something or deceive the public?” the communications and digital minister said at a press conference in Wangsa Maju, here.
The survey was conducted in collaboration with research firm 02 Research.
The survey, which involved over 35,000 respondents, found that while non-Malay communities were generally satisfied with the government, a majority of the Malay respondents were not.
Only 15% of Malay respondents were satisfied with the government’s efforts to fulfil the 15th general election manifesto, while 71% were dissatisfied.
Fahmi went on to question the methodology used to conduct the survey as 81% of the samples were males.
On a separate matter, Fahmi took a PAS MP to task for labelling Anwar the “father of lawsuits” and claiming that the prime minister was unable to handle criticism.
Fahmi, who is also the government spokesman, said while criticism was accepted, slander was not.
“As an MP, he should know the consequences of defamation,” he said of Awang Hashim.
Anwar had previously sent two letters of demand to Awang after the latter implied that the prime minister was “not properly appointed” to office following the general election.
Awang was also told to apologise for saying the prime minister was “more vindictive than Dr Mahathir Mohamad”.
Meanwhile, on the European Commission’s decision to ban its executive staff from using TikTok over security concerns, Fahmi said he had ordered CyberSecurity Malaysia to look into the security concerns raised by the EC.
CyberSecurity, the national cyber security specialist agency, is under the ministry.
“To me this matter is important as it involves the government’s secrets.”
