Shah Alam district police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said police received a report about the theft at around 6.48am. A team was rushed to the location and found two ATMs damaged in an explosion.

However, only one ATM was successfully broken into.

“Investigations thus far have revealed three suspects who alighted from a white Mitsubishi ASX and entered the bank’s ATM area,” he said in a statement.

“The closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage was unclear as the suspects had sprayed black paint on them.

“The forensics department, bomb disposal unit and ballistics investigation unit are assisting in the probe.”

Iqbal said there were no signs of fire or casualties reported at the crime scene, adding that the forensics department said the explosion was created by gas pressure.

He said the police were in the midst of tracking down the suspects.

The case is being investigated for causing mischief with fire or explosive material under Section 436 of the Penal Code, and for theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
