Selangor hands out RM5,000 to families of Batang Kali landslide victims

HULU SELANGOR:
The Selangor government has distributed RM5,000 cash aid to the next of kin of those who died in the Batang Kali landslide tragedy last December.

Rural development, village traditions, Malay customs, culture and heritage committee member Borhan Aman Shah said the state has allocated RM155,000 for the victims’ families.

The early morning incident on Dec 16 claimed the lives of 31 people, including 13 children.

Another 61 victims who were trapped in the landslide were pulled out safely during the search and rescue operations at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite.

“At the moment, we are providing financial aid. However, there may be other forms of assistance extended (in the future),” he told reporters after the Jelajah #KitaSelangor Penyayang programme in Batang Kali.

Borhan said the families of the victims from Penang and Melaka will receive cash aid from their state disaster management unit.
