PH, BN to finalise seats for Selangor polls by next month

Menteri besar Amirudin Shaari says a meeting will be held next week, followed by negotiations.

Menteri besar Amirudin Shaari says he has set a strategy to ensure a significant victory for PH and BN in the Selangor state election.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Seat distribution between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional for the Selangor state election will probably be finalised early next month, according to menteri besar Amirudin Shaari.

He said PH and BN would meet on the matter next week.

In an interview at the Parliament lobby, he said: “PH finalised the distribution of seats in 2021, but since there is BN now, we will start negotiating.

“Next week, we will have the first meeting with BN and after that, negotiations will start.

“I hope that by the end of February or the beginning of March, it can be finalised.”

Selangor PAS chief Ahmad Yunus Hairi recently said he was confident that Perikatan Nasional had a good chance of winning the state polls.

He said the feedback from voters was that they were “tired of lies and false promises” from the PH government.

“Although PH tries to deny the matter, several factors as well as the latest developments in the current political situation have contributed to my confidence,” he said.

Yunus referred to the results of the 15th general election, which saw PH candidates lose six parliamentary seats in Selangor. BN did not win a single seat in the state.

Amirudin accused PN of trying to fan racist sentiments.

“The results of the last election were not so favourable to PN because the people of Selangor are not easily influenced by the racist rhetoric it used,” he said.

“The strategy I have set is to ensure significant victory in Selangor.

“The last election’s results show there is a new dynamic that may benefit the unity government and also PH in Selangor.”
