His remarks against the minister came after he was not invited to the handing-over ceremony of the Pendang Hospital to the health ministry last month.
While debating the royal address at the Dewan Rakyat today, the PAS MP said more than 75% of Pendang voters had reelected him in the 15th general election, which he won by a 31,000-vote majority.
“Therefore, I would like to ask the health minister to be mindful when coming down to the Pendang Hospital (next time). Don’t simply barge in, alright?”
“I know that there is an order from the (top) in Putrajaya, which led to this health minister without manners to come down (to Pendang) without informing (me),” said the MP.
He was then interjected by Azli Yusof (PH- Shah Alam), who asked him to retract his remarks.
Deputy speaker Ramli Nor then reprimanded Awang for violating a rule in the parliamentary standing orders which states that a member of the house should refrain from calling a fellow member by name. Awang then retracted his remarks.
Last month, Awang had hit out at Zaliha for not inviting him, Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Noor and the state executive councillor in charge of health Dr Hayati Othman for the Jan 12 ceremony.
In a Berita Harian report, he questioned whether they were not extended invitations due to their political differences.
