
GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has remanded a ‘Datuk’ and another individual over a cleaning contract with the Seberang Perai City Council said to be worth RM8 million.
The duo, who have been remanded for three days, are being investigated for allegedly falsifying their banking accounts to win a five-year contract with the council.
The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for giving a false account with the intention to mislead the council.
The offence provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine not less than five times the value of the claims or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
