What happened to plan to solve rising cost of living, asks Radzi

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously said he had given relevant ministries and agencies two weeks to analyse and discuss targeted subsidies for the people.

Radzi Jidin (PN-Putrajaya) said there had not been any comprehensive approach to tackle the rising cost of living.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Radzi Jidin (PN-Putrajaya) has called out the government on an unfulfilled promise to come up with ways to solve the rising cost of living burdening the people.

“If I recall correctly in the early stages, when the Tambun MP became prime minister, he mentioned giving two weeks to prepare a proposal paper to tackle the issue of cost of living.

“Now, it’s been well over several weeks and we still don’t see any comprehensive approach (proposed) to tackle the issue,” he said during a debate in Dewan Rakyat on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s address.

Radzi also chided the Anwar-led Pakatan Harapan coalition for giving the impression during the campaign period for the 15th general election that the cost of living issue was “easy to solve”.

“So why is it that until today, there has been no holistic action taken on this matter?” he said.

On Nov 27, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had given relevant ministries and agencies two weeks to analyse and discuss targeted subsidies for the people.

Anwar said the priority was to ease the burden of the people, especially those in the lower income bracket, in view of the rise in the price of goods and cost of living.

He also said once the Cabinet was formed, the relevant ministers would discuss their findings with their officers and the agencies under their purview before presenting the results to the Cabinet.

In response, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) said that the two weeks given by Anwar were meant for data collection, not to solve the issue, which requires continuous effort.

“That has to be clear,” he added.
