SHAH ALAM:
Three medical assistants from Serdang Hospital were jailed for between two and four months today after they pleaded guilty to receiving bribes from a businessman over a provision of funeral arrangement services.

Shah Rizan Yasak, Riduan Ibrahim and Yusri Yusof pleaded guilty to charges against them under Section 165 of the Penal Code before sessions court judge Rozilah Salleh.

Shah Rizan admitted to receiving RM6,250 to secure funeral arrangement jobs for the businessman between April 6, 2018 and Aug 7, 2019.

Riduan and Yusri received RM3,550 and RM1,100, respectively, from the same businessman during the same period.

Shah Rizan was jailed for two months, and Riduan and Yusri were jailed for four and three months, respectively.

The court also imposed a RM20,000 fine against Shah Rizan or in default an additional six months in prison.

Riduan and Yusri were slapped with fines of RM10,000 and RM5,000 each.

Another medical assistant from the same hospital, Hairul Nizam Idris, pleaded not guilty before the same court to receiving RM1,100 from the same businessman in April 2018.

Hairul was released on a bail of RM6,000 with one surety.

The court set March 17 for next mention.

Last year, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said authorities had arrested four hospital staff over claims of soliciting and accepting bribes of between RM1,000 and RM5,000 each to secure funeral arrangement jobs between 2018 and last year.
