
The instruction came after a review of statements made by those interrogated during the original investigation.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior director Hishamuddin Hashim said the investigation papers were referred to the deputy public prosecutor who has since directed the commission to investigate the case further.
The allegations against the council were about alleged misappropriation of zakat collections. Hishamuddin said MACC’s investigation had been conducted in 2019, with the probe focussing on corruption and abuse of power.
However, the anti-graft agency found no evidence of corruption.
Last Wednesday, Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun confirmed that authorities were still investigating allegations which had been made online.
The whistleblower site Edisi Siasat claimed there had been a breach of trust among certain religious officials involving zakat collections. Zakat aid is normally distributed to the poor and needy.
