“Thank you to all the people for living in peace and harmony as well as for continuing to put on a brave face in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, economic recession, and political crisis in the country,” he said in his address at the opening of the first meeting of the second session of the 15th Parliament today.
Sultan Abdullah also expressed his gratitude to all civil servants, including army and police personnel, healthcare workers and those in government agencies, for their tireless work over the past few years.
He called on MPs to serve their constituents in an honourable manner to reflect the resilience of the people.
Sultan Abdullah said he welcomed the Anwar Ibrahim-led administration’s efforts to stem the leakage of public funds and its commitment to fighting corruption.
He said the government must focus on strengthening the country’s economic competitiveness to make it a viable investment destination for investors through the implementation of national policies and initiatives.
“This can be achieved through a ‘whole of nation’ approach involving the government, private sector, government-linked companies (GLC), NGOs and the people,” he said.
He said the government should also consider efforts to enhance green technology and electric vehicles to create a new revenue stream for the country.
