Floods hit Bukit Tinggi, Janda Baik after downpour

Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman says all roads heading to Janda Baik will be closed temporarily because of mudflows.

Several areas in Bukit Tinggi and Janda Baik in Pahang were hit by floods after a downpour this evening.

In a series of tweets, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman posted videos and pictures of the affected areas which are in her constituency.

In one of the videos, flood waters was seen flowing swiftly, and several individuals were pushing a vehicle to prevent it being washed away.

A man was heard in the background saying the incident took place in Bukit Tinggi.

Another clip showed heavy mudflows flowing downhill in an unidentified location.

Syefura also said roads heading to Janda Baik will be closed to vehicles temporarily because of the mudflows.

Replying to netizens who asked her if there are alternative roads to Janda Baik, Syefura said there are other routes but warned them it will be dangerous to travel under the current inclement weather.

One tweet took the National Disaster Command Centre (NDCC) to task for not updating its website regarding the flood situation in Bukit Tinggi and Janda Baik.

The meteorological department issued thunderstorm forecasts in several states today but Pahang was not on the list.
