Umno not being sidelined, says Ahmad Maslan

Umno's secretary-general dismisses Ismail Sabri Yaakob's claim the party is being treated like the opposition.

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said all parties in the unity government agreed that Umno’s headquarters would double up as the administration’s management centre.
PETALING JAYA:
Umno has denied claims the party has been sidelined by the unity government, citing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent visit to its headquarters.

Its secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said all parties in the unity government also agreed that Umno’s headquarters would double up as the administration’s “management centre”, Astro Awani reported.

“And the prime minister recently came to Menara Dato’ Onn after 25 years to attend the meeting on matters related to the unity government.

“Therefore I can’t understand the claim that Umno is being sidelined,” he was quoted as saying.

Ahmad said this in response to Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s claim.

Ismail, who is also a former prime minister, said Umno’s leaders were being treated like the opposition by the government.

On Wednesday, Anwar chaired the first meeting of the unity government’s secretariat.

It was the first time he set foot into the building following his sacking from Umno and the government a little over two decades ago.
