PETALING JAYA:
No elements of corruption have been found by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in its investigation into zakat collections by the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS), MACC said today.

The investigation into the claims was completed in 2019 and found that there were no elements of corruption under the MACC Act, said Negeri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail.

Allegations against certain officials of the council involving zakat collections had been made by the anonymous whistleblowing account Edisi Siasat on Telegram. Zakat aid is normally distributed to the poor and needy.

Yesterday, Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun confirmed that MACC and the police were still investigating the allegations.

Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra urged all parties to refrain from speculating and spreading fake news on the matter.

“Negeri Sembilan MACC is committed to tackling corruption involving public funds in the state. Further investigations will be conducted should there be new information,” he said.
