PETALING JAYA:
The PAS-led Kelantan government has hinted that the state will not call for an election before its term ends.

Deputy menteri besar Amar Nik Abdullah said he “personally felt” it was better to wait until the term of the Kelantan state assembly expired on June 26, Malaysiakini reported.

This was because of several issues that had arisen which impacted the initial plan to hold the state polls in March, along with the other PAS-led states of Kedah and Terengganu, he said.

“However, it (the plan) has to be postponed as Ramadan is nearing, as well as the SPM examination,” he was quoted as saying.

Amar also said Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari had previously approached his Kelantan counterpart Ahmad Yakob and suggested that the state dissolve its legislative assembly in June.

“But the Kelantan menteri besar did not give any response.”

Amar revealed that the Islamic party had begun talks with its ally Bersatu on seat allocation.

The two parties, he added, might adopt a similar strategy to that used by Perikatan Nasional in the last general election which saw PAS defending seats it had won in the 14th general election while Bersatu contested seats won by Umno.

“However, no decision has been made on the matter.”
