Genting crash death toll rises to 7

The van’s 70-year-old co-driver died while receiving treatment.

PETALING JAYA:
The death toll from a crash involving a chartered van in Genting Highlands today has risen to seven.

According to The Star, Pahang police chief Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the van’s co-driver died while receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

“Chang Them Kong, 70, was among six people who were sent to HKL, but he died while receiving medical treatment,” Ramli reportedly said in a statement today.

China Press reported today that the accident occurred at about 1.20pm around KM4.8 of Jalan Genting Highlands.

The van, which was ferrying 13 passengers, had lost control while going downhill before crashing into the concrete divider, severely damaging the front of the vehicle.

The bodies of the victims had been sent for a post-mortem, while the injured are being treated at Bentong Hospital and HKL.
