“We have checked, the state Bersatu accounts are still active,” Bersatu Supreme Council member Razali Idris was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Yesterday, MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed that Bersatu’s accounts had been frozen under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (Amla).
This is understood to be linked to an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of billions of ringgit meant for Covid-19 stimulus packages.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin previously denied claims his government had misappropriated RM92.5 billion when he was prime minister, while Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin accused Putrajaya of using the anti-graft agency as a political tool.
