Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says increasing the number of officers would be a temporary measure.
PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he has instructed the customs department to expedite the adding of more lanes and increasing the number of officers to manage the entry of Malaysians into Singapore for work.

He said this would be a temporary measure until a long-term solution is found to deal with the congestion at the entry points.

“If we have 15 customs personnel now, then increase it to 30. I have directed them to do so immediately,” he said at a meet-and-greet session with Malaysians in Singapore today.

“As for the digitalisation process, it will be handled by the communications and digital minister,” he said, referring to Fahmi Fadzil.

Anwar also said his Singaporean counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong, was supportive of the idea.

“He told me Singapore would do the same to make it easier for their citizens,” he said.

It has been reported that more than 300,000 Malaysians travel across the Johor-Singapore Causeway every day.
