PETALING JAYA:
The government has set up a “war room” to monitor the 550 sick housing projects identified nationwide, says local government development minister Nga Kor Ming.

He said his officers will scrutinise every sick and abandoned housing project to ensure the welfare and rights of buyers are protected.

Nga said the ministry had established a special team, led by his deputy, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, for this purpose.

“We are in the process of identifying the problems with the developers and contractors,” Bernama reported him as saying after handing over the keys to the Kepayang Ipoh Residency unit owners in Ipoh today.

Nga said this housing scheme, consisting of 252 apartment units, was one of the projects that had been successfully revived and completed.

“In the first 100 days, the ministry aims to complete about 5,000 units of abandoned affordable homes,” he said.

Nga said more than 90 affordable housing projects in Perak had been abandoned. This involved 40,000 housing units.
