The march began after the Friday prayers and the protesters were heard shouting “Protest Sweden” and “Hancur (destroy) Sweden.”
Among those in the march included leaders from PAS, Bersatu and Muslim NGOs.
Around 50 policemen, who were first seen at the mosque, also followed the protesters as they started making their way to the Swedish embassy which is located at an office building near Jalan Tun Razak.
Swedish far-right politician Rasmus Paludan’s burning of the Quran last Saturday sparked outrage among Muslims worldwide.
In Malaysia, the foreign ministry summoned the charge d’affaires of the Swedish embassy in Kuala Lumpur over the matter yesterday.
In a statement, the ministry said the charge d’affaires took note of the Malaysian government’s protest and said he would convey the views to Stockholm.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday condemned Paludan’s act and called for action to be taken against the politician to check what he called an “alarming rise of Islamophobia” in Sweden.
Anwar also said that while today’s protesters have a right to do so, he advised those attending the event against causing any trouble.
