Kedah PH chief Mahfuz Omar said all parties within the two coalitions needed to accept that there can be no “big brother” in deciding seat distributions between them.
“There will need to be a division (of seats) and distribution among the parties.
“I believe we must all be open to getting fewer seat allocations to make way for the other,” he said.
The Amanah vice-president said all parties involved must come to the discussion with an open mind and put aside their egos.
“Whether it is BN or PH, all parties in the coalitions must accept that we cannot contest as a ‘big brother’ to take it all,” he said, according to Utusan Malaysia.
He also said the two coalitions have yet to begin negotiations and only preliminary discussions between himself and several BN representatives have taken place.
“We hope that following the conclusion of Umno’s general assembly, we can now start discussing how to face the coming state election,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mahfuz said he was confident that BN-PH could wrest Kedah from PAS, claiming that it was a “misstep” on the part of menteri besar Sanusi Nor in not dissolving the state assembly simultaneously with the 15th general election (GE15) on Nov 19.
He said this misstep had opened the door for BN and PH to regain the state.
“I believe that with what the unity government has shown, including the reforms being carried out, the people have started to rethink the rhetoric they’ve been fed before,” he said.
He said Kedah PH believed that the voters were ready to change the state government to bring it in line with the unity government for the sake of the state’s development.
PAS-controlled Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu and PH-led Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan decided not to hold their state elections simultaneously with GE15. They will hold their state elections this year instead.
On Wednesday, PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the three PAS-controlled states will discuss organising their state elections simultaneously with the three states led by PH.
Samsuri, who is also the Terengganu menteri besar, said a meeting scheduled for next week will mark the second discussion between the state leaders on the matter after informal talks held late last year.
