The suspect was believed to have consumed liquor taken from the house.

The man caught sleeping on the job had gained entry to the house through an unlocked back door.

A suspected burglar was arrested after he fell asleep in a house he broke into at Taman Tanjung in Bahau, Jempol here yesterday.

The owner found the 41-year-old suspect sleeping in the single-storey terraced house when he woke up at about 6.30am, said Jempol district police chief Hoo Chang Hook.

The intruder had apparently fallen asleep after consuming alcoholic drinks taken from the house.

“The complainant found a paper bag containing two knives and a screwdriver, and two bottles of liquor and a tablet next to the suspect,” Hoo added in a statement.

The 65-year-old house owner, his wife and their four children were at home when the incident happened.

The suspect, who was believed to have entered the house through an unlocked back door, has a criminal record for several offences, including taking drugs.
