Covid-19 cases down 17.3% to 2,088 last week

The number of deaths dropped to 24 compared with 34 the week before, bringing the cumulative number of fatalities to 36,932.

The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped by 17.3% last week to 2,088, from the 2,525 recorded the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Jan 21, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 to 5 declined by 28.6% per 100,000 from the preceding week.

He added that overall bed occupancy for non-critical and ICU beds decreased by 2%.

Active cases decreased during the week by 7.9% to 10,042 from the 10,901 active cases the previous week.

“Recoveries dropped by 27.6% from 3,288 cases to 2,379,” Noor Hisham said.

“The number of deaths stood at 24, down from 34 the week before, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,932.”

He said a total of 5,034,521 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
