5-year-old girl drowns in Baling hot springs

PETALING JAYA:
A 5-year-old girl drowned at the Ulu Legong Hot Spring Recreational Centre in Baling, Kedah on Saturday night.

According to Baling district police chief Shamsudin Mamat, the incident took place at about 8pm, after the victim was last seen bathing in the children’s pool.

After about 15 minutes of frantically searching for the girl, her family was alerted by other visitors who found her floating in the adult pool.

“The victim was found unconscious and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered to the victim. Her family called the hospital and an ambulance arrived to rush her to the emergency department,” he said, according to Utusan Malaysia.

Shamsudin said a medical officer confirmed that the victim died on the way to Baling Hospital at 11.20pm.

A post-mortem conducted at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar confirmed that the cause of death was due to drowning.

Shamsudin said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
