PETALING JAYA:
Actor Sharnaaz Ahmad Bazir Ahmad, better known as Sharnaaz Ahmad, has claimed trial to a charge of assaulting a security guard last year.

According to Berita Harian, Sharnaaz, 38, was charged in the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today with assaulting the 27-year-old security guard on June 16, 2022, at 8.30pm.

The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code with voluntarily causing hurt, an offence that carries a maximum jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal requested the court to grant Sharnaaz bail of RM5,000 in one surety. Sharnaaz’s lawyer, Abu Bakar Isa Rahmat, asked for a lower amount since he had cooperated with the police during the investigation.

Magistrate Atiqah Saim allowed Sharnaaz bail of RM2,000 and set March 6 for re-mention of the case.

The actor was remanded for three days in June last year after he was suspected of having punched and kicked a resident of a condominium in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur.

The alleged victim, who works as a security guard elsewhere, had asked a friend to buy cooking oil for him. However, his friend was not allowed into the premises by the condominium’s own security guards.

Sharnaaz was alleged to have reprimanded the security guard and his friend, which led to a an argument and a scuffle.
