PENAMPANG:
The Sabah government has been urged to table a bill against party hopping at the state assembly meeting in March.

Ewon Benedick, who will be taking over the post of Upko president at the party’s convention today, said he had submitted the proposal to Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor and the state government.

The Penampang MP said the bill was important as it would help create political stability in the state, adding that it was vital to ensure that the state government could function properly.

“Here in Sabah, we need political stability. If we continue to change our chief minister and the state government through SD (statutory declarations), when will we achieve political stability to develop the state and the people?” he said at a press conference here last night.

Benedick, who is the state minister for entrepreneur development and cooperatives, will be taking over the helm of the party from Wilfred Madius Tangau. Upko is a Pakatan Harapan (PH) component.

He urged party members to have the courage to reprimand him and help keep him grounded.
