
The video clip showed the man approaching the woman and snatching her handbag which was slung over her right shoulder. The woman suffered injuries to her right hand and losses amounting to RM2,800.
The unemployed man, 37, was believed to have been involved in several snatch theft cases in the state, including two cases here this year, Bernama reported.
Police seized two mobile phones, a shirt, a helmet, three bank cards, cash and a Yamaha Legend motorcycle for further investigation, said George Town police chief Soffian Santong.
The man was caught in Simpang Ampat, Seberang Perai Selatan, at 12.15am on Saturday as a result of intelligence and surveillance carried out by police.
He tested positive for methamphetamine and has five previous criminal offences on record.
