PETALING JAYA:
Former Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has called for Umno to revoke his suspension to “restore the unity and integrity of Pasir Salak Umno”.

In a letter to Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan sighted by FMT, Tajuddin claimed the Umno Supreme Council’s decision to suspend him was based on the accusations of “certain people” from the Pasir Salak Umno committee.

He claimed that these committee members had colluded with officials at the Umno headquarters to put an end to his political career.

“I would like to request the Supreme Council to give me justice and withdraw the suspension as soon as possible,” he said.

Tajuddin was suspended for six years last October, although he downplayed it by claiming it was not a “death sentence”.

He fell from grace after he became critical of Umno following his removal as a Supreme Council member in June last year. He had also called for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign as Umno president after his removal.

However, he had said he would remain loyal to the party.

On Jan 5, Umno information chief Isham Jalil said the party had rejected Tajuddin’s appeal against his suspension because of disciplinary reasons.

In his letter, Tajuddin said he campaigned day and night for GE15 because of his love for the party and that he wanted the Pasir Salak parliamentary seat as well as the two state seats in the constituency to remain with Umno-BN.

“I even extended financial assistance to the party machinery, the amount of which exceeds RM1 million,” he said.

In December, Tajuddin revealed that PAS had made him an offer to stand as a Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate and defend his Pasir Salak seat in GE15 but he opted to remain with Umno out of loyalty.

“I have been with Umno for a long time. I entered Umno in 1975 when I was 25 years old. Since then, until now, Umno has given me so much.

“I wouldn’t have left Umno just because there was a problem with me not having been nominated (as a candidate in GE15). I received offers. When my name was not listed, PAS asked me to join them and become a PN candidate but I declined,” he said.
