PETALING JAYA:
Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and his executive councillors have come under fire for failing to host Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim when he visited the east coast state recently.

Terengganu Pakatan Harapan information chief Sufian Mat Ali said Samsuri and his exco members have no excuse for their “no-show”.

He added that they could not say they were not notified, since state secretary Tengku Seri Bijaya Raja was present to welcome Anwar.

“The menteri besar and his exco members need to reflect on themselves and be more professional in the interest of the state,” Sufian said in a statement.

After a working visit to the PAS-governed state, which saw Anwar being granted an audience by Terengganu ruler Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, the prime minister said he will meet the state government after the “political temperature” cools down.

Anwar said he had informed Sultan Mizan about this, pledging that Terengganu will be treated equally and fairly.

However, Sufian accused Samsuri and the other state leaders of boycotting Anwar’s visit.

He also praised Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob for hosting the prime minister when he was in Kota Bharu last month.

“A good relationship between the state government and federal government must be kept for the continuity of the state’s administration,” he said.

Both Terengganu and Kelantan are governed by PAS.
