“I’m glad that our beloved party, Umno, as per the president’s speech earlier, is steadfast in demanding justice for my father,” she said when met on the sidelines of the Umno general assembly at the World Trade Centre here.
Nooryana said her father’s “aura” faded after he was incarcerated and this was seen with his absence during the party’s campaign in the general election (GE15) last November.
“Bossku’s aura could be felt by the grassroots and the people during the Melaka and Johor state elections, and this resulted in pulling of support. However, during GE15, it (his aura) was not felt as much,” she said.
“He knows he’s innocent, and his fighting spirit remains strong even though he is in prison,” she said, adding that Najib remains loyal to Zahid as Umno president and would never betray the party.
She reiterated that her father was not given due justice in his final appeal for the SRC International corruption case at the Federal Court last year.
“We now have to get ready for a review of the judgment, which will begin on Jan 19,” she said.
In his presidential speech earlier, Zahid acknowledged Najib’s role as one of the main factors that Umno and BN received growing support from the people after the coalition’s downfall in 2018.
He claimed that Najib was a victim of selective prosecution and political persecution.
Najib was sent to prison on Aug 23 last year after his conviction in the SRC International case was upheld by the Federal Court. Prior to his incarceration, he had actively campaigned for BN in the Melaka state polls in November 2021 and Johor state polls in March 2022.
