PETALING JAYA:
Police have launched a probe into a claim that there were hidden cameras in the changing rooms of a clothing store at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya, a Twitter user had made the claim, sharing an 11-second video of the recordings which went viral. The video has since been taken down.

In a statement, Noor Dellhan said a police report was lodged on Monday.

“An investigation is ongoing to identify the date and location of the incident. These actions are an offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code,” he said.

Section 509 deals with insulting the modesty of a woman and provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Earlier, The Star reported that clothing store H&M had lodged a police report after netizens expressed concern over the viral video.

“The safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to us,” the company said. “We have conducted an inspection of all the fitting rooms and are working to ensure that there are no security breaches that will compromise the privacy of our customers.”
