The communications and digital minister said only messages and alerts of public interest and importance, such as flood warnings, will continue to be disseminated.
He said although such messages will continue to be broadcast, it did not mean there was no need to review the SOPs.
“We are obtaining information and conducting a review on the process of sending out messages (to the public),” he told reporters at an event here.
Fahmi said there was a need to realign the SOPs to ensure that only messages on important matters like natural disasters and other emergency alerts were sent out.
The ministry had recently drawn flak for blasting messages praising the unity government.
Through its “GOV” SMS broadcast, the ministry had sent messages on Tuesday describing the Anwar Ibrahim-led government as a “solution based on the law and Federal Constitution”.
Another SMS on Wednesday said the unity government was represented by “MPs of various races, religions and regions with various expertise and experiences”.
The “GOV” broadcast channel was set up to disseminate public service announcements on initiatives by ministries and government agencies.
The government had used the channel during the pandemic to inform people on the bank loan moratorium and various movement control orders as well as to warn the public on scams.
