The singer has been flooded with angry and racist comments on his Instagram page from supporters of the national team deprived of tickets for Malaysia ‘s match against Thailand in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Cup semifinal tomorrow.
In response, Chou said all he wants to do is perform for his Malaysian fans.
“To Malaysian football fans, I know that you all take football seriously. I have no problem with cooperating and delaying the concert, but the focus is that you should all ask the football association or venue organiser.
“Whether or not I delay my concert shouldn’t be a problem, I just want to be allowed to sing to my fans,” he said.
Football supporters have been angry because 21,000 seats have been left vacant for being blocked by a stage for Chou’s concert. The National Stadium at Bukit Jalil has a capacity of more than 84,000.
According to youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh, organisers of the Jay Chou World Tour had booked the National Stadium in 2019, while the Football Association of Malaysia secured use of the stadium for AFF Cup matches only in August last year.
