KUALA LUMPUR:
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) may install additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor flood-prone areas.

Mayor Mahadi Che Ngah said 5,000 CCTV cameras have been installed around the city and DBKL is considering whether there is a need for more.

“The CCTVs have been effective in helping us monitor the water levels in the main rivers,” he told a press conference today.

He said they also keep an eye on accidents, infrastructure damage and illegal activities.

“We even apprehended an individual who vandalised the Malaysian flag after viewing CCTV footage,” he said. “He was caught within five hours.”
