In a video clip which has been making the rounds on social media, a coach is seen slapping two players during the 2022 Malaysia Youth U14 Volleyball Championship in Johor last month, drawing the ire of youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh, among others.
“The education ministry takes a serious video of the media reports (on this matter) and will hold a meeting with the parents of the students who were involved to obtain more information,” said the ministry in a statement today.
“At the same time, the ministry will continue our investigation. If found guilty, appropriate action will be taken (against the teacher).”
Stressing that it is committed to ensuring the safety of students, the ministry said it will provide its full cooperation to the police if a police report is lodged.
Yesterday, the Malaysia Volleyball Association (Mava) said it had suspended the coach and would investigate the incident.
It said it has no tolerance for violence and is prepared to take further action in accordance with the law and its constitution.
