SEPANG: There is a need for a comprehensive look at the factors behind the brain drain, especially among youths in the country, says deputy youth and sports minister Adam Adli.
He said one of the main things that needed to be examined revolved around the economic concerns youths were facing.
“We don’t focus on youth development in terms of leadership or sports performance alone. We need to identify emerging issues when it comes to the youth and economy.
“It is not necessary to focus 100% on one issue, but we must find a way to solve this problem,” he told a press conference after the Malaysian e-Sports Team Send Off programme at KLIA here today.
Adam said the issue of the brain drain cannot depend solely on steps taken by the government as the causes must be identified first.
Recently, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah was reported to have suggested that the government continues to work on improving the existing system and reduce the impact of migration of local skilled workers abroad.
Adam said that in line with the aspirations of his minister, Hannah Yeoh, youth issues would be given priority by the ministry to solve their problems.
He said the ministry would implement initiatives based on the findings of a study by the Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES).
